TO HOLD THE RED ROSE (Kavanagh) A lover's passion A pilgrim's quest My love for you beats beneath my breast The wind blows wisdom Through joys and woes Then I turn to you To hold the red rose To hold the red rose Where your love grows To Hold the red rose A preacher's prayer A sinner's song Fast or slow Time still moves along We walk together down destiny's road and then I turn to you To hold the red rose To hold the red rose Where your love grows To hold the red rose A beloved father A mother's bond A daughter's devotion A son who belongs We stand together Through all that life throws and then I turn to you To hold the red rose To hold the red rose Where your love grows To hold the red rose

Hold On 04:50
HOLD ON (Kavanagh) Slow down, let me gather my thoughts The why whys, the what whats Come 'round, we'll talk of forget-me-nots The lows and highs, the knotted knots Lost and found, give it all that you got Read between the lines, Join up the Dots Gone to ground, feels like I'm losing the plot Turning tides, X marks the spot Travellin' through time, lost in a dream Forgetting your face n' all that you mean Movin' my mind, beyond my being Misplacing this place, everything seen It all connects, I'm here and now Shot out from space, Southbound I'm trying to hold on Hold on
3.
Mercy 06:09
MERCY (Kavanagh) Goldenbridge Polluted waters Bring your son Bring your daughter Golden bars Faraway stars Lambs ready for the slaughter Plots and Schemes Walls and fences Children serve a prison sentence Broken dreams Open menace Nothing so heavy as emptiness Mercy Mercy Heaven up there in the sky God forgot our wings Sister Brother Where is my Mother God forgets a lot of things Bitter kisses and poisoned lips Shattering steel silence Crucifixes and penguin slips Nothing so heavy as emptiness You will never be free of this God made the bees and the bees make the honey, Mercy Children do the work and the nuns get the money, Mercy Little fingers bleed on your sacred rosary beads, Mercy Children on their knees as Heaven starts to freeze Mercy, Mercy, Mercy You liar You thief You swore to protect me You liar You thief You swore to protect me You liar You thief You swore to protect me You liar You thief You swore you swore Mercy
4.
CAN YOU SEE ME (Kavanagh) These questions are drying on my lips Your eyes hide the lie in your kiss Sparkling with every summer they’ve seen That burning heat that’s fueling your dreams Can you see me-Can you see me thro’ this It’s said that everything comes in threes This second blow has got me on my knees Blaming everything that’s in between Leaving Everything torn and bleeding After the storm-Get ready for the peace Thro’ this mist, your eyes so clear Blind with love they see none of the fear Leaning on your trust-You’re an angel Begging for your trust thro’ all these changes You’d never love me if this struggle ceased Can you see me-Can you see me thro’ this
5.
GETTING THINGS DONE (Kavanagh) The bottom line is how we see the big picture Get a handle on it so we’re on the same page Great to touch base – let’s table it for later Press some flesh-Embrace the change-Embrace the change If you don’t do it who else will? Get back to basics – Set up the main stage Hit the ground running- Go in for the kill Manage expectations and channel that rage-Channel that rage From the rising to the setting sun We’re getting things done-Getting things done Make sure the left hand knows what the right one is doing We don’t want to wind up on a slippery slope Keep and tight ship-Don’t show your cards too soon Take one for the team-Push out the envelope – Push out the envelope Give us a ballpark figure leave some elbow room Have a contingency plan-Give them enough rope Lessons to be learned-reach beyond the moon Watch what you’re sayin’ Wash your mouth out with soap-Was your mouth out with soap From the rising to the setting sun We’re getting things done-Getting things done Stay on it-Hold on tight Stay on it – It will be alright Stay on it- Don’t give up the fight Stay on it- It will be alright
6.
Say You Will 04:43
SAY YOU WILL (Kavanagh) I don’t know where to begin or how to explain There’s a strength that flows beneath my skin Won’t you hold me-Say you will With this love let the fight begin Who knows maybe we can make it A swirling beauty and the light floods in Won’t you hold me- Say you will It’s flowing like a river Now I know that it’s sink or swim As I slip beneath the waves A swirling beauty and the light grows dim Won’t you hold me- Say you will
7.
Sweet Friend 03:53
SWEET FRIEND (Pete Kavanagh) I know baby that it’s hard Your man is gone and you’ve fallen apart You’ve been lost too long in the dark Hold On Be Strong He couldn’t take it anymore He was broken by that war Staggered through the fog to the end of the world He’s Gone Carry On Chorus You have to take hold of the reins Learn to live with the pain And in time life will grow again My Sweet Friend At the day’s end The whole town spoke of the shame How all he’d left was his name You and your children have to start all over again To see it through To the end Hold your head high and believe In all you give and receive Your love has crossed the mountains and the seas You have sown what you will reap Chorus twice
8.
Ashes 04:30
ASHES (Kavanagh) Deep inside of her it’s screaming With rage & hurt, pain & shame Her green eyes shine so wonderful Her green eyes shine so real Her green eyes shine so beautiful Spiritual and Free If you come too close She’ll run and hide Behind those eyes You won’t get by-No Don’t come too close She’s not like she seems This is nothing- No Nothing like it seems to be A beauty that’s untamed Her soul flies the same She’s Ice in the warm summer rain If you come too close…Behind those smiles… She’s a child-An Angel She is hell personified She is woman- Dangerous She is hope amplified I reach out to know her To unlock the doors-To let in the light and shut out the night-Stop the screamin’
9.
TONIC FOR A TROOP (Kavanagh) I’m chasing shadows through the dirt Walking away from everything worth fighting for Leaving a trail of shame and hurt Got some time to kill-Let me explain I wasn’t like this before the war Had a wife n’ kids n’ keys to my front door I took pride in my name and work Now my time is spent Drowning the pain I spent weeks in the belly of the beast Lost my mind in the merciless heat Thro’ it all I held on to the belief I would Return home to all I had known Before all this death and all of this regret And that She’d be waiting for me You never forget the taste of sand Or the stench of burning flesh caused by your hand When it’s raining blood and you’re soaking wet Prayers go unanswered in the valleys of death I can’t eat and I can’t sleep I just close my eyes and clench my teeth Thro’ it all I held on to the belief I would Return home to all I had known Before all this death and all of this regret And that She’s be waiting for me Johnny got his on the Western front Billy got his when he went out for a smoke Charlie’s took days and Tommy’s no legs Jimmy’s gone blind and Tony he begs I’ve got something to say so let me be blunt You’re no man in here if you don’t know how to hunt Out in the dark with your hate and your gun You’ve got to be sure you get the job done I’ll move on now and leave you alone To ponder my words as you wander on home In the end the angels will come In the end the war will be done Peace my Brother, Peace my Son Peace my Mother, my Daughter, my Loved One Peace my Father, Peace for the world Peace for the future Peace be the Word

about

"Powerful moments & melodies combine throughout the sound & themes in Pete's Folk-based tunes."

Pete Kavanagh's debut album "Join up the Dots" combines alt-country, folk and rock with an overriding Americana feel. The songs delve into dark themes such as PTSD, mental illness, war, grief, addiction, unrequited desires, as well as positive themes of love, peace and hope shining through.

The music has flashes of alternative country, folk, jazz, and rhythm and blues, yet stays faithful to Pete’s signature singer-songwriter/acoustic-guitar feel. There is a rich array of instrumentation on the album with songs soaked in the sweet sounds of mandola, banjo, dobro, Hammond organ, electric guitar, bass, acoustic guitar, piano, percussion and a sprinkling of synths.
